About RAAFA Publications
RAAFANSW Publications Pty Ltd, trading as RAAFA Publications, is a not-for-profit company that is fully owned by the NSW Division of the Air Force Association. Established since October 2014, we publish annual 'Welcome' Guides for the RAAF Bases at Williamtown, Richmond and Glenbrook in NSW, Edinburgh in SA, and Amberley and Townsville in QLD.
RAAFA Publications also publishes the quarterly WINGS Magazine, a high-quality aerospace magazine and the official magazine of the Air Force Association.
Our Board
The RAAFA Publications Board comprises eight members. It is a very "hands-on" board, with most board members having active executive roles. The board members are as follows:
- Air Vice-Marshal Roxley McLennan AO (Retd) – Managing Director;
- Wing Commander Alan Wylie (Retd) DipAeroEng, BLegS – Director and Company Secretary;
- Wing Commander Rob Amos (Retd) - Managing Editor, Wings Magazine;
- Air Vice-Marshal Neil Smith AM MBE (Retd) – Manager Welcome Guides;
- Mr Bart French FCPA – Financial Manager;
- Wing Commander Peter Ring AM AFC (Retd) – Commercial Director;
- Wing Commander Ron Haack (Retd) - Director;
- Air Commodore Gretchen Fryar AM – ex-officio member located at RAAF Base Williamtown.
Our Publishing Team
The nucleus of our publishing team comprises two professionals, Chief Editor Ms Sandy McPhie, and Graphic Designer, Ms Katie Monin BDES (Graphic Design).
- Ms Katie Monin is a professional graphic designer of 20 years' experience. She has designed the layouts for our publications for the past 8 years
- Ms Sandy McPhie is a widely experienced journalist who, over the past 30 years, has been editor of magazines for companies such as Bauer, American Custom Publishing (ACP), Pacific Magazines and NRMA. She has been editing our publications since 2016.
- For the Welcome Guides, Sandy is supported by coordinators on each base who assemble information about the units on base.
- For WINGS, Sandy is supported by assistant editors:
- Air-Vice Marshal Bob Treloar AO (Retd): RAAF current affairs;
- Air-Vice Marshal John Kindler AO AFC (Retd): Aviation Industry;
- Air Commodore Robert Brown AM: Personal Finance.
Advertising Sales
Our advertising sales are undertaken by Business Development Manager, Mr David Jones, who has many years of experience with aviation and Defence magazines.
Printing
All our publications are printed by WHO Printing, a high quality, award winning, family-owned printer operating in Mayfield West, Newcastle.
Our Owners
The Air Force Association (AFA), also referred to as the RAAF Association (RAAFA), is a not-for-profit ex-Service Organisation (ESO) and registered charity. The Association has Divisions in each state and territory of Australia. RAAFA Publications is wholly owned by the NSW Division.
The Air Force Association is established to foster friendships based on sharing Air Force and aviation experience, support commemorative activities, heritage and records of history, and provide for the welfare of members through advice, liaison and representation.
The Air Force Association is committed and dedicated towards:
- Meeting the needs of members and their dependants, especially the ill or incapacitated;
- Providing assistance, advice for advocacy and benefits to the wounded, injured or those with illness caused from their service to their nation;
- Preserving the memory of relatives, friends and veterans who have died;
- Preserving the heritage and traditions of the Royal Australian Air Force;
- Developing the Association to ensure its continued relevance; and
- Securing the means to further these objectives.
